COVID numbers improve, more work to be done

NORTH ATTLEBORO - It's possible the coronavirus is plateauing in the weeks after Christmas and New Years Day.

North Attleboro and Plainville joined the rest of Massachusetts in reporting declining numbers this week.

The positivity rate over the past two weeks in North Attleboro plunged to 6.95 percent, down from 8.97 percent. It was at 9.02% just two weeks ago.

The average daily incidence rate also dropped to 48.3 per 100,000 residents, down from 52.3; the rate was 57.7 two weeks ago.

Plainville had mixed results in the report released Thursday night.

The positivity rate decreased – almost a point and a half – from 8.72 percent to 7.48 percent. The number was at 9.68% two weeks ago.

The average daily incidence rate rose, however, for a second straight week, from 55.1 per 100,000 residents to 56.6. It was at 52.7 two weeks ago.

Local officials are doing their best to lower the number of infections. The emergency operations center in the North Attleboro police station was home to a vaccine clinic for the town’s first responders this week.

Board of Health Director and Public Health Nurse Anne Marie Fleming coordinated the clinic. She spoke to North TV Thursday afternoon.
