North urged to hire football coach from within

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The process for hiring a new football coach to lead the North Attleboro Red Rocketeers on the gridiron in September was a topic of Monday night’s school committee meeting.

Donnie Johnson announced in January that he would be retiring after 39 years on the sideline, the last 13 as the Red Rocketeers’ head coach.

Johnson’s brother Jack Johnson and Paul Sullivan, a former head coach, are also stepping down.

NAHS graduate and former football player Patrick Fitzgibbons, now a member of the chain gang at football games, urged the committee to hire a coach from Johnson’s staff.
