North ends FY2020 with surplus

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The town finished fiscal year 2020 in the black.

Town Manager Michael Borg told the town council during the board's meeting Monday night that the state certified free cash at $4.6 million.

Borg added that $3.2 million of that total was a result of town departments finishing the year under budget.

The amount could be crucial in developing a budget for the fiscal year that will begin on July 1, 2021. State revenue has plunged since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the municipalities across Massachusetts are unsure how much they will receive in state aid as a result.

Monday's meeting of the town council can currently be seen on North TV’s North Attleboro Government Channel: Comcast channel 98 and Verizon channel 23.
