House makes history with first virtual session

NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA – The state’s House of Representatives made history this week when they held their first virtual formal session.

Representatives had to voice their votes individually. In spite of a few glitches when people couldn’t be heard, the session was a success.

In addition, there were no extended speeches with only a few representatives giving information. There was no opposition to borrowing money to help the state get through a financial shortfall.

“It was something, 158 – we have two empty seats at the moment – 158 people on their phones or their computers chiming in to vote on borrowing money because our sales tax and Massachusetts’ tax receipts are delayed until July, so we have to get through this period, it was a necessary thing to do” State Representative Betty Poirier told North TV on Friday.
