Renaming Plainville senior center debated

PLAINVILLE - The select board held a public hearing during their meeting Monday night on a suggestion to name the building housing the Plainville senior center in honor of former town administrator Joseph Fernandes.

The proposal brought to select board members from residents was far from unanimous.

Proponents want Fernandes recognized for his role in having the facility built citing the longtime town administrator played a key role in the building’s construction after council on aging director Pauline Kirby lobbied for a new center.

Fernandes backed the project and donated hours of his time lending his carpentry skills to save the town money.
