NORTH ATTLEBORO - A measure to amend zoning bylaws to regulate the establishment and expansion of motor vehicle sales was on the agenda when the town council held their bi-monthly meeting Monday night, April 27.
The amendment, which was approved 8-0 (Mark Gould was not in attendance) would require the planning board to approve a special permit for new car dealerships in designated commercial and industrial district to ensure site-specific evaluation of the impact and compatibility with surrounding land uses.
It does not prohibit motor vehicle sales uses but ensures that new establishments and expansions are subject to reasonable review to protect the public interest and promote sustainable economic development.
