NORTH ATTLEBORO - Area residents are invited to join town officials, students, first responders and veterans for two remembrance ceremonies next Friday, September 11, the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on that date in 2001.
The first ceremony, organized by the town’s department of veterans services in partnership with the school department, will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the high school’s Raymond E. Beaupre, Jr. Field.
Residents are asked to arrive between 8 and 8:15 a.m.
The student-led ceremony will include two moments of silence and will feature guest speaker Glenn Carrano.
The North Attleboro resident served as a protective security advisor with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, the CISA, assisnged to Massachusetts’ southern and northern homeland security regions from 2021 until his retirement in 2024.
Prior to joining the CISA, Carrano served as a civilian field intelligence officer fo the U.S. Coast Guard in the New York/New Jersey are from 2004 to 2020 and was involved in major events throughout the region.
He also served 20 years on active duty with the Coast Guard, retiring as chief warrant officer.
During that time, he served as a special agent with the Coast Guard’s Investigative Service and was assigned to its New York field office at Battery Park from 1998 to 2004 near Ground Zero.
A second remembrance ceremony, organized by the North Attleboro Fire Department, will follow at 11 a.m. at the September 11 Memorial at the top of the Baptist Common at 75 Park Street.
The ceremony will provide an opportunity for the community to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the first responders and others who answered the call to serve, and reflect on the lasting impact of that day.
