North TV's 1,000th weekly newscast looks back at the 1st

NORTH ATTLEBORO - North TV's first weekly newscast, "North Attleborough This Week" premiered on July 21, 2006.

There was no news set in those early days, so the show was anchored on location in front of North Attleboro town hall.

"North Attleborough This Week" ran from that date through June 12, 2020, exactly 700 episodes.

The name of the newscast was changed to "North TV News" that next week when weekly news from Plainville was added.

The top story on July 21, 2006 was one that many longtime North Attleboro residents will remember.

It came from that week's board of selectmen meeting when North Attleborough Electric commissioners attended the meeting to announce they were planning to sue the accounting firm of Grant Thornton LLC, the firm that audited the electric department when $4 million in bond money was lost in a failed internet venture.
