Test 3

Chatfield posts historic AAGA win

FOXBORO - History was made at the end of the 2020 Attleboro Area Golf Association City Open and it wasn't because it was the 60th edition of the amateur tournament.

Brett Chatfield's short par putt on Foxborough Country Club's 18 green left the 24-year-old with a 1-under-par round of 71 and a four-day total of only 5-over-par.

His name will be etched onto the championship trophy along with his younger brother Davis - the pair becoming the first brothers to accomplish the feat.

The Bishop Feehan and Bentley University graduate entered the final round with a two-shot lead over Brian Kronmiller and Jared Winiarz. There was little drama at the end, however, after Chatfield posted a front nine score of three-under par 33.

Winiarz finished second at 10-over-par for the tournament. Kronmiller tied for third with Michael Douilette and Spencer Davis.

The AAGA inducted three new members into its hall of fame following Sunday's round: three-time champion and former PGA touring pro Jimmy Renner, four-time champion Ryan Riley and Foxborough Country Club professional Lou Rivers.

Recent North Attleboro High School graduate Justin Strom was on hand to receive one of three AAGA scholarships. Strom will be attending UMass Dartmouth this fall.

Jillian Barend, another NAHS grad, could not attend Sunday's ceremony. She has already started collegiate golf at St. Francis College in Pennsylvania.

The third recipient was Ben Wood of Attleboro High School. He is attending Bridgewater State University.
