North Attleboro – The town’s first official town manager will be sworn-in during a ceremony at 6 o’clock Monday in the town hall lobby.
Michael Borg was the unanimous choice of town council members after the group concluded final interviews on January 7.
The 53-year-old Rehoboth resident spent the last five years working for the City of Providence in three different positions. He stepped down as the city’s director of public property and capital improvements on Friday.
Borg rose to the rank of colonel during a distinguished military career in the Army. He led battalions in Iraq, Afghanistan and other hot spots around the world during his 30 years of service.
The council approved a request for Borg to continue teaching online courses for the Naval War College in Newport.
He told North TV that he has been preparing for the North Attleboro position since the council made their decision. “I’ve come here (town hall) almost every Thursday evening to meet with the acting town manager and have met with members of the staff to get a lay of the land and an understanding of everything that’s going on,” he said.
“I’ve been particularly interested in the budget submission that’s being put together right now because I will take over that budget; in March, that will be the budget I end up presenting to town council.”
Acting town manager Michael Gallagher will serve as Borg’s deputy town manager. Gallagher is under contract through June 30.
