Disaster aid coming to area after 9/11 flooding

WASHINGTON D.C. - There's good news to report for those impacted by the severe storms and flooding that hit the area on September 11 through 13 last year.

President Joseph Biden signed a disaster declaration for Massachusetts and ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts.

The declaration makes federal funding available to affected residents and business owners in Bristol County.

Funding includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and businesses recover from the effects of the disaster.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has been appointed to oversee the distribution of funds.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for asisistance at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (800-621-3362) or by using the FEMA app.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the entire state.

In addition to this funding allocated by the president, Gov. Maura Healey also allocated $15 million in relief funds for towns and cities impacted by the storms.
