Elderly NA couple remembered as "loving individuals"

FOXBORO - An elderly North Attleboro couple who died in a traffic accident late last week are being remembered as “loving individuals” who “always gave from the bottom of their heart.”

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported some are calling for improvements to the intersection where the crash occurred.

Joseph Borrelli, 85, and his wife, Carol Borrelli, 81, were fatally injured late Friday afternoon when the car they were in and a box truck collided at Cedar Street (Route 106) and South Street in Foxboro.

According to their obituary, the couple were both born in the Bronx, N.Y., and were married for 63 years.

“Family was everything to Joe and Carol. They adored their grandchildren, and they treasured their great grandchildren,” the obituary states.

“Both were avid readers, always on a quest to learn something new. They enjoyed spending time outside in their flower and vegetable gardens as well. Carol was fond of the beach, while Joe found peace in the mountains.”

Sun Chronicle reporter Stephen Peterson wrote in Thursday’s edition the Borellis were riding in a Honda Accord when it collided with a plumbing business truck that tipped on its side after the crash.

Joseph Borelli was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital and Carol Borrelli was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, but both were pronounced dead.

The driver and owner of the truck, Paul Johnston, Jr. of Foxboro, who was not injured, has been cooperating with police, officials said. The crash remains under investigation by local police with the assistance of the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstrution Section and the district attorney’s office.

“There has not been any determination of criminal or civil charges at this time,” Deputy Police Chief Richard Noonan Jr. told The Sun Chronicle on Wednesday.

The intersection has been the scene of accidents over the years but Noonan and Police Chief Michael Grace didn’t recall any other fatal crashes there.
