NORTH ATTLEBORO - It was a late night for many, as town voters anxiously awaited the final tally at town hall on Tuesday night.
Although polls closed at 8pm, residents would not know the results of the election until after 12am due to an issue with one of the town's polling machines.
Attleboro voters gave Democratic State Representative candidate Patrick Reynolds the early lead, while Mansfield gave the nod to his opposer, Adam Scanlon, along with a go-ahead lead. At 12:17am, Scanlon was confirmed the winner by the tally of North Attleboro votes.
When the complete tally was in, Scanlon finished with 3,225 and Reynolds with 3,113. North Attleboro polls gave 2,278 votes for Scanlon, and 2,196 for Reynolds.
In a surprise appearance on North TV’s live election coverage by Michael Lennox earlier in the evening, the lone Republican candidate, announced that he would be suspending his campaign.
Lennox cited health reasons as the catalyst for his decision, but that he would be endorsing another Republican Candidate, John Simmons of North Attleboro to take his place.
