NORTH ATTLEBORO - The North Attleboro boys soccer team battled to the end, but could not find the game tying goal in dropping a 1-0 decision to Foxboro Monday night at the Beaupre Field.
Foxboro came into the game as the third most potent attack in the Hockomock League and it did not take long for them to show why.
Junior Matt Angelini collected a loose ball in front of the North back line before turning past a defender and letting a shot rip from outside the penalty area. North goalie David Floyd had no chance.
From that point on, the Foxboro attack peppered Floyd’s net whenever they got into shooting range and the Red Rocketeer goalie made a number of diving saves to keep North Attleboro in the game over the first 20 minutes.
The best chance of the half for North came in the second quarter off the back of pressure applied by senior forward Eddy Mendoza. The forward’s hustle forced the Foxboro backline into a turnover in their own penalty area. The ball eventually made its way out to junior midfielder Connor Ward on the edge of the penalty area forcing Warriors junior goalkeeper Derek Axon to make a fingertip save.
Though unable to find the equalizing goal, the Red Rocketeers played resolute defense for the remainder of the game.
The back line was anchored by senior Justin Silva, who took on the task of slowing down the ever-dangerous Foxboro attack after their opening goal.
North Attleboro will get another chance to take down the Warriors when they visit Foxboro on Thursday.
