Houle scores 1,000th point, North retires Babul's #43

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Pickering Gymnasium was sold out for Tuesday night’s Attleboro at North Attleboro basketball doubleheader.

The North girls rallied from an early 8-point deficit to beat the Blue Bombardiers 48-32 in the opener.

The boys’ game was decided early, as Attleboro scored the first 22 points on their way to a 63-38 rout of the Red Rocketeers.

The Blue Bombardiers actually scored the first 25 points of the game when Connor Houle hit a three-pointer to open the second quarter, the 998th, 999th and 1,000th points of his career.

Houle hit the milestone basket 36 years and one day after his father, AHS head coach Mark Houle, scored his 1,000th point in a win against Bishop Feehan in the old Attleboro High School gym.

The milestone basket followed an emotional ceremony in which former Red Rocketeer great Mike Babul’s number 43 was retired in between the two games.

Babul died of a heart attack on December 30 of 2024 at the age of 47.

His twin brother John addressed the packed house before the unveiling of the jersey on the north wall of the Pickering Gym.
