NORTH ATTLEBORO - The man many consider the father of the high school’s football program and the man who dedicated his summers overseeing the operation of the World War II Memorial Pool passed away this week at the age of 79.
Robert L. Guthrie, known as Bob and also coach, led the Red Rocketeers to their first Super Bowl titles in 1973 and 1974.
He was also the public address announcer at McCoy Stadium when the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings played a 33-inning game, the longest in baseball history.
The subject of North TV’s “North Attleborough Legends” series in September of 2019, Guthrie was asked at the end of the episode how he would like to be remembered.
