Mosquitoes in North test positive for West Nile virus

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The health department on Tuesday issued a warning for residents after the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced West Nile virus had been detected in mosquitoes collected in town.

West Nile is mostly transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.

The mosquitoes that carry the virus are common throughout Massachusetts and are found in urban as well as more rural areas.

North TV spoke to North Attleboro Health Director and Public Health Nurse Anne Marie Fleming on Thursday to learn more about the virus.
