ATTLEBORO - The home for the North Attleboro and Bishop Feehan hockey teams is fully open again after it was ordered closed last week because of mold.
Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported two of the smaller ice rinks at the New England Sports Village had to be closed after black mold was spotted by some users of the rinks and the Attleboro health department inspected them and ordered them shut.
Stephen Peterson reported the health department spotted the mold on the walls.
The problem was traced to dehumidifiers that weren’t functioning properly, the department told the newspaper.
Black mold is known to cause respiratory problems and other health issues.
“All the rinks are open and hopefully the HVAC and dehumidifiers will not cause any more issues,” Attleboro Deputy Health Agent Sheri Miller-Bedau told The Sun Chronicle.
“Upon receiving the notification, NESV management promptly assessed the situation. Our immediate and thorough investigation revealed no major public safety concerns,” New England Sports Village said in a statement.
