Petition for reduction in North tax rejected

NORTH ATTLEBORO - A petition submitted by resident Dick Kieltyka to reduce taxes by $1.7 million was rejected by town councilors during their semi-monthly meeting Monday night.

Although the petition included signatures of town residents, it did not list a printed version of the names and addresses of the residents so they could be validated by election officials.

In addition, the petition called for a reduction in taxes for the new year that begins next month.

The tax rate for 2025 was approved by the council during a special meeting on December 9 and has been certified by the state.

Councilors vowed to help Kieltyka draw up another petition for 2026.
