NORTH ATTLEBORO - The North Attleborough girls' basketball team faded late in the fourth quarter to drop a scrappy 42-31 loss at the hands of the Foxboro Warriors.
Both teams tenacious defense was on display through the first three quarters, as they forced their opponents into multiple turnovers and missed shots.
After 24 minutes of play, Foxboro held a one point advantage, 25-24, going into the final quarter.
Though North continued to battle, they could not stymy the runs Foxboro went on, spurred by freshman guard Erin Foley. Her 5 points in the quarter was enough for the visitors to build an insurmountable lead and complete the season sweep over North Attleborough.
The stand out from the game was Big Red’s defense led by sophomore Ava McKeon, who was tasked with guarding the Warriors leading-scorer, Katelyn Mollica. McKeon’s relentless shadowing of Mollica, one of the top guards in the area, put the shackles on the sharp-shooter, holding her to six points under 18 points-a-game average.
To go along with McKeon’s defense, the North offense was spurred on by the composure and timely shooting of senior guard Lydia Santos. Under duress all night, Santos (9 points) kept a calm head and set up multiple lay-ups with outstanding court vision. She also chipped in with the two 3-pointers North converted in the contest. For her efforts, Santos took home the title of North TV’s Player of the Game.
