NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Sun Chronicle, in Friday's edition of the newspaper, reported the name of the maintenance worker killed in an accident at Boro Sand & Stone Corporation a week ago Thursday.
David Ayik, 60, of Cumberland, was critically injured after falling about 24 feet from a conveyor belt on company property.
Ayik was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence in a Boston Med-Flight helicopter.
The newspaper reported Ayik suffered head trauma and was not responsive when rescue officials arrived.
Assistant Fire Chief George McKinnon told the newspaper last week witnesses immediately called 911 to report the accident and rendered aid to the victim before rescue workers arrived.
The accident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. and is under investigation.
Sun Chronicle officials announced on Thursday they filed a Freedom of Information Act after North Attleboro police refused their request for the police incident report.
Police Chief Richard McQuade told the newspaper he could not release the incident report because the accident remains under investigation.
McQuade did not explain to the newspaper how releasing the name of the man would affect the investigation or respond to a request for the name of the victim.
