North homeowner sentenced for stealing over $100K

NORTH ATTLEBORO - A former Medfield Parks and Recreation director who owns a home in town has been sentenced to serve six months in the House of Correction for stealing more than $100,000 from Medfield and exploiting his public position to enrich himself, authorities announced.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported in Friday’s edition Kevin Ryder, 51, who also has a Medfield address, was given a 2½-year sentence this week by a Dedham Superiour Court judge, six months to serve and the balance suspended for three years.

As a condition of his probation, Ryder was ordered to pay restitution to Medfield and refrain from holding a fiduciary role in any employment position while on probation, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office said. Ryder had pleaded guilty to eight charges.

He was indicted in 2023 on charges of larceny over $1,200 by scheme (four counts), larceny under $1,200 (one count), accepting illegal gratuities (one count), and use of an official position to secure an unwarranted privilege (two counts).

Ryder was Medfield’s Parks and Recreation Department director from 2014 until August 2022.
