North limits outdoor water use

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Town officials posted a news flash on its website Thursday that the water department wants residents to limit non-essential water use until further notice.

Non-essential activities include automatic outdoor watering, washing vehicles, and cleaning exterior surfaces such as buildings and parking lots.

The notice added that residents with an irrigation system should be turned off and not set on a timer.

The advisory comes after one of the Kelly Boulevard wells was shut down in mid-July after a water sample taken directly from the well tested positive for E. coli.

The water department implemented an immediate ban on all non-essential outdoor water use at the time.

Excessive water use causes water tank levels to drop, impeding fire fighting due to low pressure.
