NORTH ATTLEBORO - Teachers from all grade levels turned out for a Fairness for a Fair Contract rally in the Lou Kelley Courtyard in front of the high school Wednesday afternoon moments before the latest negotiating session with school district administrators.
The North Attleboro Federation of Teachers started the school year without a contract after failing to reach an agreement with district leaders over the summer.
The union is reportedly asking for a three-year contract with cost of living raises of 7%, 8% and 9%.
North Attleboro typically loses teachers each year for more money in neighboring communities.
Administrators have reportedly blamed town officials for not giving the schools enough money.
In spite of that claim, neither side has approached the town council to ask for additional funding.
A number of teachers spoke at Wednesday’s rally before heading indoors to observe the negotiating session.
