North water kiosk down again

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The free drinking water kiosk serving North Attleboro and Plainville is down again less than a week after it was reopened.

Stephen Peterson reported in Friday’s edition of The Sun Chronicle that the kiosk at the North Attleboro public works department’s headquarters on Whiting Street was closed on Whiting Street last week because of a technical issue.

After an unexpected delay caused by a workforce shortage, a technician for Bluedrop of South Easton – the owner of the kiosk – fixed the problem, bringing the dispenser back online last Friday, April 26.

It wasn’t operational for long, however.

“The kiosk is down again this morning,” DPW Director Mark Hollowell told the newspaper on Thursday. “We have a call in, but we checked and it is an issue inside the kiosk itself.”

A company technician will respond as soon as possible.

When it’s working, North Attleboro and Plainville residents can obtain free water from the dispenser at all hours.

The kiosk, which was installed two years ago to address concerns of residents related to PFAS – so-called “forever chemicals” in the water – has been a popular draw.

Dozen of residents use it daily, Hollowell said.

The kiosk is for all residents, but especially those with a child younger than the age of one, pregnant mothers, nursing mothers, or children with autoimmune issues.
