Origin of one fire known, second undetermined

NORTH ATTLEBORO & PLAINVILLE - A mid-afternoon fire Wednesday displaced the tenants of three units at an apartment complex off Route 1 in Plainville.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported the fire broke out about 2 p.m. at the Oasis apartment complex at 85 Washington Street (Route 1), just north of Route 106.

It was traced to an air fryer in an apartment on the second floor of the buildings, Acting Fire Chief Robert Skinner told the newspaper.

“The sprinkler system kept the fire in check until firefighters arrived and extinguished the kitchen fire. The fire alarm system alerted the occupants for evacuation.” Skinner said.

"Thee units are uninhabitable, the fire apartment and two apartments below due to water damage,” Skinner added.

The cause of a North Attleboro fire that displaced a family nearly two weeks ago was apparently accidental but remains undetermined, Fire Chief Chris Coleman told The Sun Chronicle.

The fire erupted just after midnight Sunday, January 12, and engulfed a two-bay garage before spreading to the two-story colonial house on John C. Porter Way, which is off Route 120 near the Rhode Island line.

The cause “appears to be accidental," Coleman said.

“However, an unspecified electrical issue cannot be ruled out."

The garage contained an electrical vehicle and an e-hybrid vehicle, which had lithium batteries and were near a charging station.

"The fairly new technology can come with fire hazards," Coleman said.
