PLAINVILLE - The details of the monthly report issued by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on revenue for the state’s three casinos were good news for the town of Plainville.
Plainridge Park Casino had its best September in four years, reporting gross gaming revenue of $12.19 million for September.
The state’s only slots parlor brought in $11.96 million in August and $11.99 million in September of 2021. It was Plainridge’s best month since September of 2018.
Gross gaming revenue is the difference between the total amount bet and what gamblers take home in winnings. Plainridge is taxed 49 percent on the amount.
In addition, the town of Plainville receives 1.5 percent of the gross gaming revenue. For September, that amounts to $182,993.59. The amount is more than $3,500 more than the town received in August. The casino also pays approximately $1.5 million a year to the town in property taxes.
Encore Boston also had a strong month with gross gaming revenue of more than $61.58 million last month, up from $58.08 million in August.
MGM Springfield was the only one of the three casinos licensed by the state to see a decrease last month. MGM brought in more than $20.57 million in September, down from $21.99 million in August.
The Springfield casino was the only one of the three to see an increase from July to August.
