PLAINVILLE - Members of the town's historical commission joined churches and historic sites across the nation in tolling bells 13 times at 2 o’clock on Independence Day.
The Plainville Elementary School bell was rung in front of the James Humphrey House.
The symbolic gesture was intended to be a part of a nationwide moment marking our nation’s 250th anniversary.
In addition to the tolling of the school bell, the names of Plainville’s 162 American Revolution Heroes, including George Robert Twelve Hewes – one of the last surviving participants in the Boston Tea Party – were read aloud.
The tolling of the bell was preceded by a pint-sized patriotic parade.
