Plainville school committee tackles masks

PLAINVILLE - The school committee heard from parents about their face covering policy when they met Tuesday night in the Wood School media center.

The meeting was held the evening before Massachusetts Education Commissioner Jeff Riley ordered masks to be worn inside school buildings when public school students and staff return to the classroom over the next two weeks.

Riley's mandate occurred one day after the state’s Board of Elementary and Secondary Education gave him the authority to issue an order.

Masks will be required when students and staff are indoors, except when they’re eating, drinking or during mask breaks.

Schools with a vaccination rate of 80 percent for students and staff as of October 1 would no longer be subject to the mandate.
