Subcommittee discusses North's Flock cameras

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Nine days after residents packed town hall to voice their opinions about automated license plate readers, the town council's bylaw subcommittee started the process of developing a policy for the controversial surveillance tools.

The seven cameras mounted on poles throughout the town have been shut off after the public hearing during the town council’s September 28 meeting.

The council, the town’s legislative branch, doesn’t have that authority, but Town Manager Michael Borg, the town’s executive branch, agreed to pause all data collection and reciprocal sharing with other agencies until the town develops guidelines for how the technology should be governed locally.
