MANSFIELD - A North Attleboro police officer shot at a suspect outside the Red Roof Inn Thursday afternoon after he allegedly drove away when police tried to arrest him, dragging a second officer with his car, police said.
Our partners at The Sun ChronIcle reported in Friday’s edition the suspect, identified as Kevin Burke of North Attleboro, was arrested in the area of Cottage and Freeman streets in North Attleboro about 5 p.m., over an hour after the incident, authorities said.
Burke, whose age was not given, suffered a “superficial gunshot wound to his arm” and was treated at a hospital before being released to police custody, North Attleboro Police Chief Richard McQuade said in a press release.
The Sun Chronicle’s David Linton reported the police chief said three North Attleboro police officers were treated at a hospital for injuries.
They were released and are expected to make a full recovery.
The officers were at the hotel to serve arrest warrants on the suspect who, McQuade said, “posed a danger to the community.”
Earlier, Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellen told reporters that Mansfield police were called to the hotel on Forbes Boulevard off Route 140 for a report of shots fired and that North Attleboro police had been conducting a drug investigation.
Sellon said Mansfield police were not at the hotel when the incident occurred but declined further comment.
It is common practice for police from an outside agency to notify local police of their whereabouts during police matters.
Burke fled in a black BMW that was recovered later on Commonwealth Avenue in North Attleboro, near where he was ultimately arrested.
