Tax classification hearing held in North

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The first of two meetings that will determine the tax rate for residents and businesses in 2026 was held later during Monday night's town council meeting.

Councilors held a joint session with the board of assessors for a presentation and hearing on tax classification.

Housing costs, as expected, skyrocketed over the past year with the value of a typical single-family home rising 10% or nearly $57,000.

The rates for the new year will be set when the town council meets again on November 24.

Last year, councilors approved a 27% property tax shift from the residential class to commercial, industrial and personal property classes.
