Towns were ready but Henri skirts area

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The weather gods were looking favorably upon our area this past weekend.

Early on Sunday, it appeared Tropical Storm Henri would ride up the Massachusetts/Rhode Island border into North Attleboro and Plainville. A severe shift to the west, however, spared the area from both torrential rains and severe winds.

Officials in North Attleboro and Plainville were prepared for the worst as were employees at North Attleborough Electric.

Town Manager Michael Borg and key department heads assembled early Sunday morning in the emergency operations center at the North Attleboro police station and remained in place until 3 p.m.

North TV visited the EOC and sat in on the department heads assessing the storm damage and later spoke to Fire Chief Chris Coleman.

Employees at North Attleboro Electric were in place in the event portions of the town lost power.

General Manager Peter Schiffman and System Engineer John Miller were stationed in the NAED’s meeting room monitoring the storm. North TV spoke to Schiffman on Monday about his department’s preparation leading up to Sunday’s storm.
