NORTH ATTLEBORO - It was another busy week for North TV sports with five games in seven days.
We were at Community Field last Friday night for the Hockomock League’s Davenport Division showdown between the Red Rocketeers and Foxboro Warriors. The visitors outscored North 13-6 in the final quarter to pull out a 21-14 win. Two-way lineman Keysun Wise, number 65, had 5 tackles and 2 assists on defense, including two tackles for losses. He was also solid on offense, blocking for Tyler DeMattio and Pat Bannon who combined for over 200 yards of rushing, to be named our North TV Player of the Game.
We were also at King Philip’s Macktaz Field Friday night for the Warriors 17-14 upset over previously unbeaten Milford. King Philip marched down the field in the closing minutes to set up Matt Kelley for a game-winning field goal. Kelley, number-9, a junior, nailed the game-winner with two seconds remaining to give the Warriors the win and earn North TV Player of the Game honors.
We were at Bishop Feehan’s McIntyre Gymnasium Monday when the Shamrocks’ volleyball team hosted powerhouse Hopkinton. The Hillers lived up the hype, shutting out the Shamrocks 3 games to none. Senior captain Olivia Olson, number-23, was one of the bright spots for Feehan and was named our North TV Player of the Game, as a result.
We were back at King Philip on Tuesday for the Warriors’ 3-0 shutout of Mansfield. Goalkeeper Haley Bright, a junior wearing number-96, had her sixth shutout of the year and was tested on two straight shots in the second quarter to be named our North TV Player of the Game.
We were outside at Bishop Feehan’s McGrath Stadium Wednesday when the Shamrocks hosted Cardinal Spellman in girls’ soccer. Feehan, one of the top teams in the state, played like one, blanking the Cardinals 2-nil. Grace Robinson, number 8, scored the only goal the Shamrocks would need on a header to the far corner in the 30th minute to be named our North TV Player of the Game.
Keysun, Matt, Olivia, Haley and Grace will each receive personalized DVD’s of their games and Player of the Game tee-shirts in their school colors.
