Plainville happy to be in a 'gray' area

PLAINVILLE - Town residents are apparently as good as Visine at getting the red out. For the second week in a row, the reported number of coronavirus cases in Plainville is down.

After being designated a “red” COVID-19 zone last month, Plainville dropped to yellow, the third of four ratings the state is using to measure cases in Massachusetts communities, last week. Red indicates an average of 8 cases daily per 100,000 residents over a 14-day period.

The town averaged 8.6 cases two weeks ago, dropped to 7 last week, earning the designation of “yellow,” which indicates an average of 4 to 8 cases per day.

There are two other ratings: “green” is used for fewer than 4 cases per day and “gray” signifies a “total” of less than 4 over the 14-day span.

Plainville is now in the latter category – gray.

North Attleboro is listed in the "green" category.

Attleboro’s cases are spiking, for the first time the area's only city is one of 23 communities designated "red."
