Strachan named to coach his alma mater

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Red Rocketeers have a new football coach and his is a familiar name to longtime fans of the Big Red.

Former North Attleboro High School quarterback Mike Strachan was chosen this week to replace Donnie Johnson, who announced his retirement during the winter.

Strachan has been the head coach of North's Thanksgiving Day rival Attleboro for the last nine years, but always wanted to coach his alma mater.

Fifteen stakeholders made up the committee involved in the first interviews. The finalists were then interviewed by Superintendent Dr. John Antonelli, Principal Peter Havilland, Athletic Director Kurt Kummer and Natick football coach Tom Lamb.

Lamb, with no ties to North Attleboro, was invited to participate as a neutral observer.

Strachan visited the North TV studio on Thursday for his first interview after Monday's announcement.
