Duxbury superintendent hired to lead North schools

NORTH ATTLEBORO - John Antonucci was named the unanimous successor to Superintendent of Schools Scott Holcomb during a special meeting of the school committee Thursday night.

Uxbridge Superintendent Frank Tiano was the only other candidate interviewed by the committee. A third finalist, Bellingham Superintendent Peter Marano, withdrew before Thursday’s interviews.

Antonucci is ending a difficult year as superintendent of Duxbury’s public schools.

The high school’s football team was found to be using anti-Semitic language to call plays during the recent spring season forcing the termination of the team’s coach and cancellation of the team's final games.

The school system was also sued by parents charging a teacher with abuse 15 years ago.
