Water restrictions set in Plainville, North

PLAINVILLE - Although extremely hot, it’s been a great summer to be outdoors. Typically, a few events have to be postponed due to wet weather. That hasn’t been the case so far this summer, however.

That’s the good news, the bad news is that the two towns North TV serves, along with the majority of Massachusetts, are now designated as in “critical drought status.”

Communities throughout the area have had to implement water restrictions due to the lack of precipitation.

The issue was on the agenda Monday night when members of the Plainville select board met with DPW Director Dennis Morton.

North Attleboro has limited nonessential outdoor water use to the day residents have their trash collected, but only before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

Non-essential water use includes irrigation of lawns with sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems; washing of vehicles, except at a commercial car wash and washing of exterior building services, parking lots, driveways, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives or cement.

Residents not on a scheduled trash pickup route are only allowed to water Mondays before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

Fines will be issued for multiple offenses.

Monday’s meeting of the Plainville select board can be seen in its entirety on North TV's Plainville Channel: Comcast channel 11.
