Firefighters put out fire caused by candle

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Firefighters extinguished a fire in a bedroom of a duplex last Saturday, November 29.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported in Monday’s edition firefighters were called to a building at 46B Clifton St. around 3:30 p.m. and upon arrival found smoke showing from the second floor.

First arriving crews stretched a fire hose to the bedroom where they encountered fire, Chief Chris Coleman told the newspaper.

A fire hydrant was also tapped.

Other firefighters used a ground ladder at the rear of the building to conduct a primary search, Coleman said.

A ladder truck was used to reach the roof of the two-story building to secure utilities and assisted, he added.

Area fire departments, including Attleboro and Plainville, provided mutual aid.

It was determined the fire was caused by an unattended candle. “While the incident was accidental, it serves as an important reminder of the dangers of leaving candles burning unattended,” Coleman told reporter Stephen Peterson.
