PLAINVILLE - The King Philip and Plainville school systems were informed recently they are eligible for financial help from the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported in Monday’s edition that King Philip school officials plan to use the funding for roof replacement and heating systems at the middle and high schools.
School roofs are multi-million dollar projects, with several hundred thousand dollars just for design.
The MSBA has informed King Philip it’s eligible for reimbursement of 51.42% of approved project costs, which are still being estimated for design and construction.
Plainville school officials are planning to use the state financial help to replace roofs at the Jackson and Wood elementary schools.
“Both schools have repeatedly benefited from patchwork and repairs, but the roofs are beyond the point where this is a sustainable approach,” Superintendent Jennifer Parson said. “Each rainstorm and melting snow situation results in buckets and barrels collecting water in both schools, so we are grateful to know that we’ve been afforded a chance for MSBA assistance.”
King Philip and Plainville are among 93 school districts invited into the MSBA’s Accelerated Repair Program.
