Rancho Chico shut down for nonpayment of taxes

PLAINVILLE - A popular restaurant on Route 1 is closed for allegedly failing to pay its state taxes.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported Rancho Chico Mexican Family Restaurant was seized October 9 by the state Department of Revenue, according to bright orange signs posted on the building.

It’s unclear how much the restaurant owes in back taxes.

A call to the DOR, using the number given on the signs, did not go through.

Plainville Town Administrator Brian Noble told the newspaper that the restaurant has no local debt.

Rancho Chico does have a liquor license that is listed with the DOR, Noble added.

If the restaurant settles its tax issues with the state, a food inspection would have to take place before it could reopen because the food currently in the building has been sitting there for at least a week and the board of health would also have to do an inspection, Noble said.

Until the back taxes are paid, no one is allowed into the building.

Rancho Chico has another location in West Warwick, that is still open but is under different ownership than the Plainville restaurant.
