40R housing better of two options for North

NORTH ATTLEBORO - While the apparent sale of the Emerald Square Mall and rezoning of the property on South Washington Street would change the southeastern corner of North Attleboro, a proposed housing development at the site of the Stix Fun Center on Kelley Boulevard might have an even bigger impact on the town’s northeast corner.

A developer interested in constructing 40R housing near the town’s border with Plainville announced plans for the current driving range to the town council in March.

The Massachusetts’ state website explains chapter 40R housing as, “dense residential or mixed-use smart growth zoning districts, including a high percentage of affordable housing units, to be located near transit stations, in areas of concentrated development such as existing city and town centers, and in other highly suitable locations.”

The town council meeting can be seen in its entirety through Thursday on North TV’s Government Channel: Comcast channel 98 and Verizon channel 23.
