ATTLEBORO - A Bishop Feehan hockey player is in critical condition after a tragic on-ice accident during the Shamrocks’ game against Pope Francis High School Tuesday night.
A.J. Quetta, a senior forward, crashed headfirst into the corner boards during the first half of Tuesday’s game at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.
Quetta was taken off the ice on a stretcher and taken to Bay State Medical Center in Springfield.
He underwent “successful surgery” on Wednesday, according to family.
A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for his medical care surpassed $500,000 in donations early Friday.
New England Patriot Patrick Chung was one of the thousands of contributors to the website. The veteran safety donated $5,000.
