ATTLEBORO - Archbishop Williams burst out of the blocks, scoring inside the first 5 minutes of the game, to hand Bishop Feehan’s boy’s hockey team a 5-2 loss at the New England Sports Village.
The Bishops controlled the puck to start the contest and kept Feehan pinned into their defensive zone and on the ropes. Just minutes into the game the Shamrocks defense gave in to the pressure, as senior forward James O’Toole latched onto the puck in the slot before shifting it to his backhand side, beating Feehan senior goalie David Janczar to open up the scoring.
Feehan defense, anchored by Janczar in net, fought off waves of pressure for the rest of period 1 and deep into period 2, but the Bishops were able to double their lead right before the second intermission through a Conor Kelly goal.
Archbishop Williams would add 2 more goals early in the final period, but Feehan was able to muster a goal of their own through senior forward CJ Botelho.
Botelho was the most dangerous forward the entire afternoon for Feehan, but his opportunities were limited with Archie’s dominating possession. Down 4-0, Botelho was able to earn his just reward, as he drove in on the Bishops net and was able to poke the puck past Nick Bucella to make it 4-1. For his relentless effort, Botelho was named North TV’s Player of the Game.
Feehan would add a goal as time expired through defenseman Brendan Flavin, dropping to 2-2 on the season.
Feehan will take the ice on Saturday, January 23rd for their second game of the season against Arlington Catholic.
