Burgler breaks into Westwood Estates home

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police say a Westwood Estates resident scared off an intruder earlier this week after the burgler broke into the home and disabled the power.

Police Capt. Jason Roy told our partners at The Sun Chronicle that the break-in, which was reported about 9:30 p.m. last Sunday, remains under investigation.

David Linton reported on the front page of Friday’s newspaper the intruder entered the house by shattering a basement-level sliding glass door then disabled the power by turning off the main breaker.

The culprit then walked up the stairs to the first level and eventually encountered the homeowner who screamed, scaring off the intruder, Capt. Roy said.

Nothing was stolen and no one was harmed.

The resident’s suspicion was aroused when the power to the house went out but not to neighboring homes.

The resident stepped to their bedroom doorway, heard what they thought was the downstairs television, then saw the intruder on the stairs below and screamed, Roy said.

Security camera footage showed a flashlight shining in the woods to the rear of the house, indicating the culprit or culprits may have approached from an area of new construction on an adjoining street, the captain said.
