COVID numbers still rising

BOSTON - The number of COVID cases in the two towns North TV serves is rising like a balloon a child fails to securely grasp, according to reported cases released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the two-week period ending Wednesday.

North Attleboro Director and Public Health Nurse Anne Marie Fleming on Friday urged residents to be careful in large crowds and consider wearing masks at events such as weddings, graduations and other gatherings.

The town’s percent positivity increased by more than two points compared to the previous two-week period. The number was 12.10% of the 1,417 tests performed over the last two weeks. That percentage equals 168 new cases, up from last week’s reported 9.95% or 132 new cases, 6.91% two weeks ago or 87 new cases, and 5.32% three weeks back or 69 new cases.

Plainville’s rate also increased again compared to the past few weeks. The positivity rate was 13.21% of the 530 tests performed over the past two weeks. That percentage equals 67 new cases. The rate is a big jump for the third straight week. The town was at 11.80% last week or 58 new cases. It was 8.09% two weeks ago or 33 new cases and 4.59 % three weeks back or 21 new cases.

North Attleboro and Plainville are once again higher than the state rate of 8.11 percent. Massachusetts was at 6.35 percent last week.
