ATTLEBORO - Behind the efforts of senior goalkeeper, Riley Brennan, the Bishop Feehan field hockey team picked up an impressive 3-1 home victory over Catholic Central League foe, Bishop Fenwick.
Despite the final result, the first quarter got to a less than ideal start for Brennan and the Shamrocks. The Crusaders opened up the scoring just one minute into the game through a goal off a weaving run from junior Grace Morey. Buoyed by the quick goal, Fenwick poured on the offensive pressure, but a number of kick saves from Brennan kept the visitors at bay.
The consistent goalkeeping from Brennan put Feehan in position to wrestle the game away from Fenwick. Late in the first quarter, freshman Kay Murphy found senior Annie D’Ambrosia who was able to turn past a defender and roll a shot past Fenwick goalie Cat Elias.
The Shamrocks pulled ahead in the second quarter through a hard hit goal from junior Caleigh Shaw. The goal was set up by a driving run from sophomore Mary Daley.
Junior Grace Klingaman put the game out of reach in the third quarter after she swept a pass from D’Ambrosia past Elias to put Feehan up 3-1.
The Shamrocks defense, marshaled by Brennan, would hold off Fenwick in the fourth quarter and secure the two goal win. On the back of her efforts in net, Riley Brennan was named North TV’s Player of the Game.
With the win Feehan improves to 2-1 on the year and is next in action on October 20th for Senior Night at home against Bishop Stang.
