Sturdy recieves grant, CEO thanks residents

ATTLEBORO - Sturdy Memorial Hospital has treated a large number of the area's residents who have contracted the coronavirus.

In doing so, the not-for-profit acute care community hospital has incurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs not anticipated heading into the year.

That financial shortfall was offset in part by a recent $100,000 grant from the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, and made possible through a partnership with the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation.

Sturdy President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Casey told North TV on Friday (June 12) that COVID-19 expenses have approached $750,000.  He added that the hospital's overall financial strength have helped the institution get through this diffucult stretch.

Casey thanked area residents for the support they've given the hospital's staff over the past three months. "There's long days, sometimes it can get discouraging and the community continues to support us in many many different ways, they have been terrific," Casey said.
