Local fire departments busy

NORTH ATTLEBORO & PLAINVILLE - North Attleboro and Plainville firefighters were busy this week.

Our partners at The Sun Chronicle reported NAFD battled two blazes one after the other on Sunday.

The first call came in at 12:30 a.m. for a garage fire at 49 John C. Porter Way.

The fire spread into part of the two-story colonial house, and a second-alarm was sounded.

The house has been declared uninhabitable.

Just as the firefighters were cleaning up from the first fire, a 911 call was received at about 6 a.m. for a fire in a vehicle up against the building at the Hockomock Area YMCA at 300 Elmwood Avenue.

Firefighters found a mini van fully engulfed up against the building.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the YMCA building, although the heat and smoke discolored the buildings siding.

A third fire destroyed a mobile home at Killarney Estates in Plainville on Tuesday.

Smoke was seen billowing from the home at 23 Dinny Lane off Taunton Street at about 5 a.m.

“The mobile home was a total loss,” Acting Fire Chief Rober Skinner told our partners at The Sun Chronicle.
