NORTH ATTLEBORO - Two eyesores near the town's downtown may soon be gone.
The former ABC Vacuum building and the property it sits on at the intersection of Chestnut Street and East Washington Street (Route 1) was recently purchased by Pawtucket Credit Union. The financial institution paid $1.2 million for the property and plans to build a branch on the 35,000 square foot lot. A late 2022 opening is targeted.
In addition, North Attleboro Economic Development Coordinator Lyle Pirnie told North TV this week that the former Handy & Harman building and property, one block north, at the corner of Elm and East Washington streets has been sold.
The state Department of Environmental Management completed a cleanup of the 93,000 square foot site a few years ago.
Storage USA Realty MA LLC purchased the property for $3 million. Plans for the property are unknown at this time.
